چکیده

It is known that the restarted full orthogonalization method (FOM) outperforms the restarted generalized minimum residual method (GMRES) in several circumstances for solving shifted linear systems when the shifts are handled simultaneously. On the basis of theWeightedArnoldi process, aweighted version of the Restarted Shifted FOM is proposed, which can provide accelerating convergence rate with respect to the number of restarts. In the cases where our hybrid algorithm needs less enough number of restarts to converge than the Restarted Shifted FOM, the associated CPU consuming time is also reduced, as shown by the numerical experiments. Moreover, our algorithm is able to solve certain shifted systems which the Restarted Shifted FOM cannot handle sometimes. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Restarted Full Orthogonalization Method for Shifted Linear Systems

Restarted GMRES is known to be inefficient for solving shifted systems when the shifts are handled simultaneously. Variants have been proposed to enhance its performance. We show that another restarted method, restarted Full Orthogonalization Method (FOM), can effectively be employed. The total number of iterations of restarted FOM applied to all shifted systems simultaneously is the same as th...

Restarted Block Gmres with Deflation of Eigenvalues

Block-GMRES is an iterative method for solving nonsymmetric systems of linear equations with multiple right-hand sides. Restarting may be needed, due to orthogonalization expense or limited storage. We discuss how restarting affects convergence and the role small eigenvalues play. Then a version of restarted block-GMRES that deflates eigenvalues is presented. It is demonstrated that deflation c...

A Simplified and Flexible Variant of GCROT for Solving Nonsymmetric Linear Systems

There is a need for flexible iterative solvers that can solve large-scale (> 106 unknowns) nonsymmetric sparse linear systems to a small tolerance. Among flexible solvers, flexible GMRES (FGMRES) is attractive because it minimizes the residual norm over a particular subspace. In practice, FGMRES is often restarted periodically to keep memory and work requirements reasonable; however, like resta...

Global GMRES with Deflated Restarting for Families of Shifted Linear Systems

Many problems in science and engineering field require the solution of shifted linear systems with multiple right hand sides and multiple shifts. To solve such systems efficiently, the implicitly restarted global GMRES algorithm is extended in this paper. However, the shift invariant property could no longer hold over the augmented global Krylov subspace due to adding the harmonic Ritz matrices...

A Restarted Gmres Method Augmented with Eigenvectors * Ronald

The GMRES method for solving nonsymmetric linear equations is generally used with restarting to reduce storage and orthogonalization costs. Restarting slows down the convergence. However, it is possible to save some important information at the time of the restart. It is proposed that approximate eigenvectors corresponding to a few of the smallest eigenvalues be formed and added to the subspace...
